1. Description of Service

Chameleon provides tools to help researchers and medical writers check their manuscripts against journal formatting requirements. Our service:

• Checks Word documents (.docx) against journal-specific formatting rules
• Identifies formatting issues such as word counts, spacing, and reference formatting
• Offers automatic fixes for certain formatting issues
• Provides a directory of journal submission requirements

2. Early Access

Chameleon is currently in early access. During this period:

• The service is provided free of charge
• Features may change, be added, or be removed
• We may introduce usage limits or pricing in the future
• We will notify users of any material changes to terms or pricing

3. Account Registration

To use certain features of Chameleon, you must create an account. When registering, you agree to:

• Provide accurate and complete information
• Maintain the security of your account credentials
• Notify us immediately of any unauthorised access
• Be at least 18 years old, or have parental or guardian consent

You are responsible for all activity that occurs under your account.

4. Acceptable Use

You agree to use Chameleon only for lawful purposes and in accordance with these Terms. You must not:

• Upload malicious files or content designed to harm our systems
• Attempt to circumvent security measures or access restrictions
• Use automated tools to access the service without our permission
• Interfere with or disrupt the service or servers
• Use the service for any illegal or unauthorised purpose

5. Your Documents

You retain all rights to the documents you upload to Chameleon. We do not claim any ownership or intellectual property rights over your content.

By uploading documents, you grant us a limited licence to process them solely for the purpose of providing the service. This processing occurs in memory only—we do not permanently store your document content. See our Privacy Policy and Security page for details.

6. Intellectual Property

Chameleon, including its design, features, and content (excluding your documents), is protected by copyright, trademark, and other intellectual property laws. You may not copy, modify, distribute, or create derivative works from our service without our express written permission.

7. Disclaimer of Warranties

Chameleon is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, either express or implied. We specifically disclaim:

• Any warranty that the service will be uninterrupted or error-free
• Any warranty that formatting checks will be complete or accurate
• Any guarantee that manuscripts checked by Chameleon will be accepted by journals

Journal requirements may change without notice, and our database may not reflect the most current requirements. Always verify requirements with the target journal before submission.

8. Limitation of Liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, Chameleon and its operators shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, including but not limited to:

• Loss of profits, data, or business opportunities
• Manuscript rejection or publication delays
• Errors or omissions in formatting checks
• Any damages arising from your use or inability to use the service

Our total liability for any claims arising from your use of Chameleon shall not exceed the amount you paid us in the twelve months preceding the claim (which during early access is £0).

9. Account Termination

You may delete your account at any time through the account settings provided by our authentication service. Upon deletion, we will remove your account data in accordance with our Privacy Policy.

We may suspend or terminate your account if you violate these Terms or engage in conduct that we determine, in our sole discretion, to be harmful to other users or to Chameleon.

10. Changes to Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. If we make material changes, we will notify you by email or by posting a notice on our website. Your continued use of Chameleon after such changes constitutes your acceptance of the new Terms.

11. Governing Law

These Terms shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of England and Wales. Any disputes arising from these Terms or your use of Chameleon shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales.
